Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

Pistol Pete - HAH! great name. love those english setters. a very beautiful breed. but i agree with you about the energy level. i considered one but that high energy was the deal breaker.

tonight will be valentine's day dinner (i'm gonna be traveling tomorrow). so i went to my favorite fishmonger and asked for something special. and he didn't disappoint.
i got 2 small lobster tails which he gave me at a very special price. this is what i intend to do with them.

i will take them out of their shells, cut them into nice chunks, coat them with tempura batter and give them a quick fry. i've made some cole slaw and will serve with my super special french fries and a garlic aolie remoulade and clarified butter with lime juice & lime zest.
here is my little trick for tempura. it will work just as well for any batter, but i use tempura more often. anyway, take the bowl you'll use for the batter and put it in the freezer. then take some water and put that in the fridge. then take the dry batter and put that in the fridge. take them out just as you are ready to fry. heat your oil first. get everything ready. then take the stuff out of the fridge and make the batter. because it is so cold, it will get real crispy and won't absorb so much oil.

happy valentine's to you all!

I would settle for some of my moms white beans n hog jowl and cork cakes with some deer steak chased down with some iced tea.

God I miss her and her cooking (1-5-2013)

We had a Boxer/English Setter mix that was probably one of the best dogs I've ever had, but the first couple years were intense!

I'm trying to think of something special to make for dinner tomorrow, but who am I kidding? I don't even know what I'm making tonight yet & all of my meals seem to be of the boring 'one dish' variety.

If you are talking about my avatar, that is my PISTOL PETE and he is an English Setter. A wonderful breed, loves people, smart as a whip and very easy to train. Too much energy though, even at 9 years old, Pistol keeps up with our 2 year-old german shepherd with no problem.
By the way, we didn't name him, the previous owner named him after the University of Wyoming mascot.

Supper tonight will be tenderloin steaks, onions/mushrooms, lettuce salad and garlic toast made from egg bread.

OR taco's - depending on my energy level when I get home...
Ah, I so remember Pete.....and you! We lost our Molly-girl, so seeing Pete still grinning at me is nice. Do you still have that photo of him in the water? So funny!!

Tonight is "Ken's Choice, just because it's Valentine's Day. I'm making something, his "choice" is eat it or go hungry. <sigh> Still not feeling the cooking thing.....

I'm with you, Blooie. I've seemed to spend a LOT of time in the kitchen lately, and the appreciation just isn't there. So, I'm thinking to scale back some.

I'm also not feeling the whole Valentine's thing.

I think tonight will be a pot roast with carrots, and mashed taters. I need simple and easy for a few days.

We had take-out pizza from a local bar. YUM been hankering for it for a couple of days.

Quick Pistol Pete story - The other day, DH was trying to teach his 2 year-old german shepherd to play dead. DH would point his finger at the pup, say "bang" and then pushed the dog over on his side. Then the pup got a treat. My English setter laid on his dog bed and watched this for about 20 minutes before he got up and walked over to my hubs. So DH points his finger at the dog and says "bang" and the old dog laid down on his side and played dead ... and got his treat. Pistol has not been trained to play dead before - three days later and he still does the trick. Nob-head shepherd still has no clue.

Love the smart dogs! Although right now, I'm happy with my not-so-mentally active dogs. They're more my speed

changed things yesterday, had chicken and veggies in gravy over tots. tonight will be the roast and carrots.

I"m thinking pizza tonight. It's early, so I'm still ambitious about making it home made.

But depending on how the day goes, I may be checking the e-mail for coupons from Papa Murphys
