I had a huge rutabaga living on my counter for about a week, and I got tired of it whispering to me "they (the kids) will never eat me- nah nah nah na nah nah!" So, I cut it into chunks and put it in a long simmering venison stew along with an equal number of potatoe chunks. The rutabaga chunks turned the stew a strange orange color which I wasnt counting on, so I told the kids it was "Halloween Stew" and they chowed down

menagerie-
Good thinking! I used to make a dish we called Moosh, because that's what it looked like. It is mashed potatoes- can be leftover, onions, cheese, butter, ham. That is the basic, you add whatever is around. Leftover, fresh whatever. I would use this dish to get my kids to eat things they didn't like. I woul change the veggies, cheeses, and meats. Once I minced liver and put it in, but ALL the kids caught me and wouldn't eat it!

It is a good comfort food, in fact I had leftover mashed potatoes and yesterday I made myself some moosh with onions, cheddar and ham.

I hope all of you not feeling well get better soon. Take care of yourself and eat soup!! I agree stay away from dairy.

Tonight is leftover tuna casserole.

Jacob cattle beans... that's what i was told they were called. Kinda look like big ole kidney beans, but taste nothing like them. They are bout half inch big with the maroon looking spots but are mostly whitish. (yeah i know, my descriptions aren't great)
The hubby's son's mom, gets them from either the health store or from the Shaw's (grocery store) in Maine. Or maybe she get's them from the Amish stores? lol
I just know they're wonderful in baked beans, and the closest i can find to them are the great northern beans.

re: the cattle beans. Those mysteriously started growing in my sister's backyard one year. Took them forever to ID them, but they saved the seeds and replanted from then on out. I've never tried them, but they say they're great.

Wishing the sickies away from all you who're affected.

Tonight will be pulled pork sandwiches and some veggies. The pulled pork is leftover from the smoked pork from Tuesday. Yummy!

Thanks all for the get well wishes. I've been drinking lots of water, tea with honey and resting (or trying to!) Hopefully I'll be good to go again tomorrow.

Jacob's cattle beans are also known as anasazi beans and are a dried large, white bean with distictive maroon markings. They're kind of sweet and fresh tasting, and very smooth and creamy.

DH was a sweetie and brought me my favorite, Chinese Hot and Sour soup with extra hot chili oil for dinner.

london broil---salt & pepper served up for my kids

on the side for mama: sauteed onions with ginger and red wine vinegar spread on top of mama's meat.

side dish: penne pasta with broccoli in an alfredo sauce.

last night it was what we call "grab and growl".........that nicely means whatever is in the fridge!!

Tonight though it will be roasted chicken and taters and carrots! Oh! and onions and celery too!

Happy birthday Debi!

Maplesky - feel better soon! It's so hard taking care of little ones when you're sick. I'm glad mine are college age.

I'm on antibiotics for pneumonia and have no appetite, so DH had Campbell's tomato soup and grilled cheese.
