Hey Grandpa, What's For Supper?

I do the hb meat, 1 egg, a lil worchestershire sauce, a package of crackers, crumbled, salt and pepper, some onion ( i chop real fine, hate crunchy onion), a lil bell pepper, 8 oz can tomato sauce. Mix it up, put half in bottom of cast iron skillet. Slice some cheese, lay that on the layer, then add the other half. Bake 30 or so mins, drain grease, put back in for about 10 mins to get some crunchy to it.
Never have had my kids get yucked on meatloaf. MY mom can't cook, so we grew up with the theory that everything has to be covered in ketchup, so we could choke it down. We've noticed with the cheese in it, we don't hardly use ketchup on it.

Well this Geckomama is on strike! So I am not cooking supper! It will be grab and growl and defend for yourselves around here tonight.

I asked for a few simple extra chores to be done. I asked the older kids to bring a few things for supper last night and NOT ANY of my requests were followed through with.

So I guess they will all figure it out or figure out how to buy their own fast food!!

Did I mention I was mad? LOL!

Thanks all - a glass of wine at bedtime, a hot shower and 2 Tylenol this morning and I'm nearly myself again, just the knees are still a little tender.

It's pasta aglio e olio tonight with an Italian style salad and Italian bread.

Monica - I've got that coffee cake in the oven now and it smells heavenly! I can't wait to taste it. Thanks again for sharing the recipe.

Aneesa - sorry about your migraine, but here's hoping it stays on the left.

Well it is just me tonight so who knows LOL maybe a brat burger with cheese (any white cheese will do)

Tomorrow is a baby shower super, I am not even hoping it is ediable as my sister is cooking, out of 13 of us kids she is the only one that can't cook. She can do deserts though so we will keep her.

But Sunday I just got a new recipe I am trying. Spare ribs with salt, pepper and garlic powder, browned. Put in the crock pot at 6am smothered in sauerkraut and then covered with french onion soup and cook at about 200/250 till super at 6pm. Baby carrots and homemade carrot cake with cream cheese frosting (seeing as the neighbor keeps asking me to make it so she can have some LOL). Can't wait, I just love the meat counter I get my meat at as she always has such great recipes to try for each cut of meat ya buy.

The Chicken Chick. I would love to know that Hungarian Goulash recipe as I have yet to find a good recipe for Goulash.

Skand try the food processor for those onions, chopped so fine that ya can taste them but ya don't crunch them.

Geckomama I hear ya and you need Chocolate LOL. Want my brownie recipe quick, moist, and double the chocolate when ya add my chocolate frosting recipe, it will fix anything. Or I could give ya my microwave fudge recipe, ready in about 8 minutes and to die for. Note here, anyone with teenage daughters need this recipe LOL.

Happy Hen I sure hope you are feeling better and hug that dog, the guilt is probally just about killing him.

Zookeeper, those spare ribs sound wonderful! We love our sauerkraut. We buy it from the Hutterite colony 5 miles from our home. I had my son with me once when I went to buy some. They happened to be making some at the time and invited us to watch. We enjoyed the education!

I am glad to share this recipe with you. I would maybe add corn and mushrooms but my DH would probabally cry!

2 lbs burger (I cook only with deer)
1/2 tsp onion pwder
1/2 tsp garlic pwder
2 Tbsp flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
2 tsp paprika
2 14 oz cans of diced tomatoes
1 c sour cream
4 bay leaves
Egg Noodles

Brown burger, mix onion pwder, garlic pwder, and flour until meat is coated. I do this in my slow cooker. Add every thing else except the sour cream. Simmer on low for a couple of hours. Add sour cream 30 minutes before serving. Serve over hot egg noodles. Sometimes I mix the 2 together. If you don't have time to do it in the crock pot it can be done faster on the stove or electric skillet.

Thanks for all the meatloaf ideas, everyone. I'll have to give 'em all a try one of these days. The last time I made meatloaf, probably a year and a half or so ago, I used two different recipes I found on the Internet and combined them. I'll have to track down what I did and let you all know. It was pretty darn tasty.

Annesa's Muse - Hope the migraine goes awwwaaaaaaaay!

Do any of you enjoy Persian food? My home ec partner in HS was Persian and first got me started on it. Then years later I had a Persian hair stylist. We had a deal. Any time I needed my color done, Ali would give me a new Persian recipe. I ended up with a nice little collection over the years.

Zookeeper9000 - hand over the fudge recipe!

It never hurts to have a little dose of reality, geckomama. Maybe you should cook something really tasty and yummy for only YOU and let 'em drool while they watch you eat it!

JK I hope they learn their lesson!

Microwave fudge

1 bag of confection sugar (this is powdered sugar)
1 cup cocoa
1 stick of oleo ( I would think you could use butter)
1/2 cup milk

In a microwave safe bowl mix powdered sugar and cocoa together. Cut oleo/or butter up and place on top of the sugar and cocoa. Pour milk over this DO NOT STIR YET. Put wax paper over bowl and microwave on high for 3 minutes. Take out stir by hand then put back in and microwave for 3 more minutes. Take out and mix with mixer and put in buttered pan. Eat it and enjoy eating it.

Fudgy cocoa brownies

1 stick marg - guess ya could use butter
1/3 cup cocoa
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teas vanilla
1/2 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Grease an 8 x 8x 2 in pan set aside. In medium sauce pan melt marg over low heat (or microwave in a 1 qt container). Remove from heat. Add cocoa and stir until well blended. Add sugar and mix well. Add eggs one at a time and stir in well. Stir in vanilla flour and salt. DO NOT OVER STIR. Fold in nuts. Spread in a prepared pan and bake @ 350 for 25 to 30 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.

Frosting

6 Tbls soft marg or butter
1/2 cup cocoa
2 2/3 cups of unsifted confection (powdered) sugar
1/3 cups milk
1 tsp vanilla

I just throw this in a bowl and beat it till smooth then I put a thin layer on when brownies are hot wait till they cool and then put a nice generous layer again. Then I eat way too many of them.

Enjoy

We had fish n' chips for dinner. Cod with fish batter, and steak wedge french fries... mmmmmmmmmm I'm stuffed. Found out last time I made it, Tilapia is ucky! Flounder is just a lil too fishy tasting for me. Cod's a pretty good fish.
Tomarrow is fresh ringneck pheasant!

skand - Yuummmm, fish and chips! Cod is one of the BEST fish. It's versatile, but what I like best is how it's farmed, usually American fishermen in American waters. Pollack is also really good, again, usually, an American product but a milder tasting fish than cod. I've found that Tilapia tastes "muddy" and is usually from China. As a retired chef, I like to know where my food comes from and how it was raised, and I try to avoid anything from China.

Monica - That coffee cake is AWESOMEl! MY DS and his GF already ate about 1/3 of the cake. Hopefully I have some left in the morning while DH and I relax and share the paper and conversation over coffee before we face the day!

Zookeeper - Thanks for sharing (I think) ! That fudge sounds so sinfully good I can see myself making a pan everyday to feed my chocolate addiction. You have now aided and abetted a chocoholic!

Guess what!? I did it! He said it was "just right"! Of coarse it was just a fluke, because I am one of those cooks who never measures anything! But, I DID it!
