It's funny that you said that--my daughter has somehow picked up this bit where she rates my meals like I'm a gladiator...with one or two or no thumbs up. Plain ol' roasted potatoes got two thumbs up.

Tonight it's a coworker's recipe called "Cabbage Patch Stew," which is basically browned ground meat and onion, tomato sauce, Rotel, kidney beans, chili powder & seasonings, and a couple baby heads of cabbage, shredded. All cooked on the stovetop together. Probably should serve it with cornbread, but I'm just too darn hot to bake it, so hopefully people can just use bread or crackers.

That last decision will probably cost me one of my thumbs-ups.

uhmmm sounds delish! I 'learned' how to fry cornbread on the stove top from my MIL, really good...don't forget cornbread fritters...or the item I purchased to keep the heat level down in my house....toaster oven! Good sized...almost no heat output! I have a broken handle cast iron that fits perfect in there!

I didn't cook tonight...had a trip to the hospital for a church member...kinda tired....hope ya'll have a safe and wonderful holiday and week-end!

I did a quickie ...stir fried some chicken breast with onion, garlic and ginger ..threw some peas in there... and flavored it up with some Hoisin Garlic sauce and a little bit of some leftover sauce from a restaurant (no idea what it's called, but it's spicy!)

Steamed some sushi rice ..I've had a kick for "sticky" rice lately.. and voila!

That "cabbage patch kid" thing sounds yummy! I'd have to change the kidney beans for some other, but YUM!!

And I'm sooo doing those roasted taters tomorrow! Maybe even in the morning!

Happy 4th of July!

I'm making oven bar-b-qued chicken (No BBQing right now.) using my "secret" homemade bar-b-que sauce. Well, okay, it's not really a secret, but there are no measurements, and that seems to drive people batty. lol!

With it we're having :

Cheesy-Broccoli Rice Casserole
Potato Salad
Coleslaw
French Bread
Lemonade, Iced Tea etc.
Peach Cobbler

I need to dig out the rice recipe asap, as it's one someone gave me, and I need details! Or else I'll wing it!

Backyard Buddies, how was the soup???

Aneesasmuse, that sounds good. I make something similar which is also with only a few ingredients. I use chicken, garlic, ginger and onions, then add just asparagus cut on the extreme bias, and red bell peppers in short, strips.

Do you literally mean that you had sushi rice with it....vinegar and all, or that it was steamed sticky rice? Do you make sushi? I make "California" sushi when I bother.

Parsonswife, I loved my toaster over years ago, and even made "square pies" in it! lol! Now I have a countertop convection oven which is like a big toaster oven, and holds an 11" Pyrex baking dish. I make everything in it, just about!

I hope that your fellow church member is well soon.

Redfeathers, I'm sorry to have not been here yesterday, but the recipe from MoonbeamQueen is very close to mine. It looks sumptious!

It was yummy!!! It took about 35 minutest to caramelize the onions but it was worth it. Next time I make it, I'll use even more onions. I used 4 very large, jumbo onions, but next time I'll use 5 - 6. It's amazing how much they shrink!

Happy 4th you as well, Tutter, and to the rest of the gang! We're going to a BBQ/potluck, so I'm not entirely sure what I'm eating today.

May you eat lots of fun things. Don't forget to ask for recipes!

Tutter.. your version of the stirfry sounds yummy, too! I change up the veggies that I pop in there ..just depends on what is fresh and available (and in my house!)

I did not put the vinegar in the sticky rice ..I should be more clear when I say/type things

I always get fussed at cuz I don't write down my recipes with exact measurements, too ..but I didn't learn to cook that way. I stood elbow to elbow with my Nannie (great-grandma) and watched her ..and did what she told me to!

Everyone enjoy the excitement today ..and be safe!
