Hey Grandpa, What's For Supper?

Tonight were fireworks at the beach (You can't have them for personal use here, either, but this is a professional show, over the ocean.) so we wanted fast food. I decided to make fried rice for dinner, which went over well.

I'm not sure what I made last night! lol!

I sauteed large dice onions, 1" red bell pepper strips, broccoli florets, bite sized pieces of chicken breast, garlic, slices of fresh ginger and pieces of pineapple, bite sized. You could add a dash of soy sauce/tamari, I added sweet paprika, and enough cayenne for a mild bite. When it was nearly ready I added the juice from the pinapple, which was natural, not sweetened. But the pineapple was ripe, and naturally sweet. Then I served it with Jasmine rice.

It came out savory, with a hint of sweet from the pineapple, and I will definitely make it again!

The buffalo ranch was closed for the holiday, won't be open until tomorrow, and I'm out of meat. So I rearranged the menu to have baked potato night tonight.

I'm not going to complain about not doing much cooking, as we are starting a triple digit heatwave today. The firefighters are really going to have their hands full with 127 fires in this heat, in my county. 400 more National Guards are on their way, though, so hopefully the fires won't become worse than they already are.

Those are wonderful sounding meals, Cknmom!

Stay cool, everyone! (Unless, of course, it's chilly where you are!)

Tutter- I can imagine how it is up where you are. The last three years we have been evacuated because of fires. Today the smoke from the goleta and big sur fires is so bad I had to close all windows, leave the puppy in his pen and keep DGD inside. I think I will let her out later for 1/2 hr. or so to run through the sprinklers with the dogs.

You all up north keep safe and stay out of the smoke as much as possible!

Monica

May god help the firefighters and keep them safe!!

I don't smell the smoke down this way, today ...I hope that means you are all safe and the fires are being controlled!

Be safe everyone!

If my migraine doesn't let up, someone will be having cheesy chili dogs for dinner ..and I'll have an Imitrex injection, thank you!

I'm going to make a pasta primavera using a bunch of veggies picked at the church garden (zukes, green beans, sweet peppers), tomatoes from my garden, along with some veggies I have from the store (broccoli, carrots). I'll serve that with home made French bread.

omg I love sausage with biscuits and gravy, I hit every place I could when we drove down to florida in March. All the waffle houses for biscuits and gravy

I'm gonna have to get up before Ben tomorrow and make us some sausage and gravy and biscuits!

If I get up before my Roo, it won't be too hot to cook ...maybe

I survived the migraine and made something a little more complicated than chili cheese dogs ...Chaapli Kababs, fresh masala Naan, brown basmati rice and a big salad!

DH went to work early tonight ..and Ben is already on his roost ....so I can die a slow death for the rest of the evening

Well, Grandpa got himself a good case of the laziees. I have been so wrapped up in chickie chores for the past few weeks working outside until dark every night. By the time I come in, shower and eat supper it is long past my bed time. Got to get my beauty rest, ya' know.

DW has been taking care of the cooking and doing a fine job of it. I did cook for the 4th on the smoker, i.e. pork ribs, chicken, pork sausage, and pork shoulder. Gonna be eating bar-b-que sandwiches for the next two weeks.

But tonight I had a real supper for a change:

Stewed Chicken W/brown gravy
Rice
Smothered Squash
Rape Greens ( Bet ya' don't know what rape greens are!)
Cornbread
Cold Sweet Milk

Ok, for those of us without the benefit of your grannie, just what are "rape" greens?

My grannie was a bit of a prude and would have NEVER said that four-letter word. She wouldn't even let my mom go near the primate cage at the zoo during certain times of the year, if you know what I mean,

and you NEVER admitted to having let alone talked about ANYTHING sexual or any bodily function in front of her. And this was a woman from simple farm folk. She raised chickens, pigs and cattle. Go figure!
