Hey Grandpa, What's For Supper?

Well, my husband, daughter, and I are all working at the nursing home tonight (no choice, but double time is nice). No fireworks for us. No BBQ. Made a very tasty chinese chicken salad for dinner last night and will be taking leftovers to work along with some blackberries I picked this morning. We'll BBQ on Wednesday when we're all off together. Stay safe everyone and have a great time no matter what you are doing!

Since it's raining...

we are having a summer fruit plate...melon, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, plums, peaches, lunchmeat, salami and cream cheese rolls, crackers, cheese, cocktail shrimp, corn on the cob, (phew)...and for dessert, angelfood cake with raspberries, blueberries, and whipped cream (we have a lot of raspberries to use up!)

Backyard Buddies, I find the same things. It does take a long time to caramelize the onions, but yes, it's definitely worth it!

Yes, I used more onions, 8, and it was a nice amount, but onion size has a lot to do with it. These were not jumbo, so I probably used what you plan to next time.

Thank you, and I hope that whatever surprises you find for dinner are delicious!

Aneesasmuse, in both of our defenses, it's hard to do better than, "to taste" with a lot of ingredients. Not just because people like different amounts of salt, pepper etc., but also because the other ingredients in the dish will be saltier, sweeter, or more bland, depending. Besides, it's a lot more fun to throw in a little of this, and a little of that. with a flourish, than drag out the measuring spoons!

I didn't know my great-grandparents, but did stand at both of my grandmother's elbows, as well.

Tuffoldhen, our meals are surprisingly similar! I even forgot that there was whipped cream and ice cream for the cobbler!

It sounds wonderful! We usually have peach for the 4th, and thinking about it, it's probably because the berries, like blackberries and raspberries won't be ripe for weeks yet here! Enjoy a piece of that raspberry cobbler for me!!

That cabbage patch sounds great, I will have to try it.
We are havieng bbq steaks, potato salad, deviled eggs, corn and cupcakes for dessert, iced tea or milk for DGD and beer and whiskey for DH and and I. we came up with a great refreshing drink: Cuddy Valley Lemonade- Whiskey, homemade lemonade(from home squeezed lemons) and chambord raspberry liquer. It is wonderful!!
Everyone have a great and safe celebration of our wonderful country!!

Haven't had a chance to be here all week, and everyone's meals sound SOOO GOOD! as usual.
Today, just getting together with family members, so not having too much (there's only 8 of us) -

BBQ ribs and brats (w/saurkraut for some)
Corn on the Cob
Potato Salad
Some kind of shrimp & fruit salad (my SIL is bringing it and was told to bring the recipe, too)
Baked Beans
Watermelo
Green Salad
and for Dessert - some kind of jello/cream pie thingee that my mom makes (you use jello, coolwhip and fresh fruit and maybe some other stuff) one strawberry and one peach

That should stuff us up a bit

Come on over, there's enough left over to feed us all (plus more) again tonight - or to feed my son's band!

Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th and your animals weren't too upset. Thankfully, with all the wildfires going on around here, personal fireworks were banned. Nice display out at the fairgrounds, though!

Last night was grilled Mahi Mahi with homemade Jerk ..and some butterflied prawns fried in Panko (japanese bread crumbs). I fried some cabbage, made tartar sauce ..and grilled some jalapeno bread, too

I was hungry when I started cooking, so it all came out kind of "international'ly"

Tonight, I'm hoping for Thai at a little gritty place in San Francisco ...food is AWESOME! Space and decor ..not so much!

baked potatos rubbed with olive oil wrapped in foil and roasted in the grill

And a friend brought over marinated pork chops and threw them on the grill too
The theme was grilling.
