I'm wondering if Yogiman/Roger is okay.

Ms. Julie,
Yogiman is fine as frog hair. Sorry, didn't mean to worry you none. Just been real busy around here. Fortunately the hurricane come on shore down east of us and traveled up through the center of the state. We had little to no effects from it. The 34 parishes around us all suffered greatly. We had no power loss or anything. The orps and I made out real good. I took a chance and rode it out with them. Thank you so much for caring and asking. Blessings to you and yours.

Glad to hear you're OK!

I just made a homemade rub for some super-sassy barbecued country style pork ribs, and I have the ribs rubbed and in the oven. They'll cook 2-3 hours tonight, then chill in the fridge over night, then hit the hot grill for about 5 minutes before serving tomorrow night. I'm going to try using, instead of barbecue sauce, an Asian type of sauce like you'd find on General Tso's Chicken.

Cowboy, I'm just wondering--do you by any chance watch the TV show, "Saving Grace," starring Holly Hunter? It's set in Oklahoma City, and there are constant Sooner references and refrains of "BOOMER SOONER!" on the show. They even had Barry Switzer as a guest-star a few weeks ago. One of the cops on the show was a high school football phenom who took a scholarship to UT, and the other characters are always knocking his Longhorn stuff off his desk or stealing/hiding it.

LOL No, I aint never seen it, but it sounds funny enuff! I'll have to check it out!

It's a really well-crafted drama, on basic cable. Good writing. Holly Hunter plays a cop who has had a rough life, molested as a child, lost her sister in the bombing of the Murrah building, and has lost her faith. So God assigns her an angel, named "Earl," who looks kinda like he might be a trucker or something, but not an angel...I can't make it sound as good as it really is, but we love it. It's profoundly serious and funny at the same time, and as Arkies, it has a "local" feel to us, from the accents on.

TNT has full episodes online .

Last night was snapping turtle gumbo and homemade wheat bread followed by zucchini bread. And elderberry wine.

Yup, first attempt. The meat didn't seem all that exciting to me, but the gumbo itself was to die for.

Oh, and I still intend to post that recipe for blueberry sour cream cake, I haven't forgotten, I'm just spending too much time with my birds.

swampducks... did you make the turtle gumbo just like regular ol' gumbo with filet and roux and all that? did you add any other meat and what veggies did you add? It sounds pretty interesting, actually.

Saving Grace is one of my favorite past time shows ..I watch online every week ...when I get a break from the Zoo. I think Earl is perfect as an angel ...we never know when we are being approached by one ..and we certainly wouldn't suspect someone like Earl as one ....so there's a huge lesson in his character ..both appearance and script

I'm thinking of kidneys with fresh tortillas and spanish rice, salad, etc. ....for tonight. I wish I could remember the name of the dish ..kidneys with onions, peppers and so on ..simmered down with all the spices. It's good ..if you like organ meat ...but I always forget the name

I know what you mean. I used our last package last night inmy lasagna. Hunting season is right around the corner. I am sure we will have to buy some beef burger in the mean time. We are so used to eating deer that when we eat "real" hamburger we wonder why it tastes funny?!

Tonight is home made rolls, and beef short ribs with garden potatoes.

Hi Yogiman!
Tonight I'm making YOUR recipe for cat head biscuits and also some red pepper mustard greens (from my garden), not bad from a Mainer-huh?
we are getting the leftovers of the hurricane tonight-hope we don't lose power.

I really love to hear all these meals! I'm so happy to hear that people eat so many different things! But I must ask-snapping turtle (for real) gumbo? Or is that a pet name. I remember snapper as tasting like the pond warmed over!
