Depends on the mama and your relationship with her... and how protective she is with her babies. Some hens that are your absolute pet before they hatch chicks can turn into ansolute protective monsters when they have babies! That's just the nature of nature. I would not gamble. I would prepare a safe place for her to raise her babies until she thinks it is safe to rejoin the flock. If you cannot provide that, put off hatching eggs until you can build such a place. It is possible to get a hen out of the notion of being broody. I would do that for now. Build your brooder. She will probably go broody again at a better time.Thank you, do you think that mama chicken would let me pick up her babies and pop them into the nesting box of the coop at night? There are many foxes where I live, so they would be quite vulnerable if they didn't go into the coop at night. Or would it be easier for me to set up a different temporary coop for them to go to at night?
