Wha????? Like I'd be anywhere else???

I can't wait to try my hand at Milles. It would be so much easier to start with a mille of course, but that might be harder to come by.

I just love genetics. I love figuring out what could be produced from this and that and of course struggling to perfect the program. Just fun!

I am going to work on Standard Mille Cochins, I already have a Red Cockerel, just need to aquire a few more colors for the formula.

Mille Cochin's

Ralph was working on Large Cochin Mille's and said he was going to have eggs for sale next year. I wonder where they all went and who has them now? I sure was hoping to be able to buy some.

I wonder if Speckled Sussex over Buff Cochin would get a good start in LF mille fleur cochins, or if it would get you too much to work against. I wonder if the dark mahogany color would be too hard to lighten up.

I really like the darker mille. My fav pullet of lynne's is the dark one. My question is would the darker color be a DQ WHEN mille becomes an excepted color by the APA for cochins??

I think speckled sussex would probably be ok but you be another four or five years breeding back a nice cushion and feathered feet.

I want to show off my early Christmas present. I waited a long time for these yesterday in my car while Jamie was going through heavy traffic and snow coming through PA. He said it would be worth the wait and that he had a surprise for me....and it was...and he did

I got a trio of mottleds -two blacks and a blue hen and the surprise was a blue mille project pullet!! This spring is going to be exciting. I hope the thrill will carry me through another four months of frozen waterers!

Hi! I want to take this opportunity to thank MsBear for the lovely introduction to your site. Yes, I'm the one who is "working" on Mille Fleur Bantam Cochins. I really didn't realize there were so many people out there that were doing exactly the same thing!

I have to admit I am not educated in genetics so I don't know anything about the "correct" way to start this project. I just decided to get the best stock available & start from there. I bought one MF roo from a gal in Tenn. & then hatched another from shipped eggs. I then purchased two beautiful Buff Columbian pullets from Tom Roebuck. The end result is pure luck.

I got the 3 pullets that you have seen pictured & about 10 cockerels. I kept the best cockerel. He had the best form, comb & coloring. I looked at him yesterday & was pleasantly surprised to see the mahogany color coming along. I will get a pic of him today & if I'm too dumb to get it loaded, perhaps MsBear would be so kind as to do it for me.

I suppose you have realized by now that I am really wrapped up in my birds (long winded). I don't show, so this is just my hobby. If I can help with eggs or birds or advice in the future, please do not hesitate to email me.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to join this group.

Lynne

so glad you made it

We're all "long winded" about our birds so you'll fit right in. I was just showing off my newbies when you posted

and I'll be dreaming sweet MF dreams til my beloved eggs arrive.

I asked Jamie (the breeder I got my mottleds from) what was the best way to ship long distances and he said he successfully shipped to India!! I think it was like 9 out of two dozen hatched...but some did. He said ground would probably be best as he doesn't like putting them on a plane.. We have some time to think about it still

OMG your new babies are adorable! What beautiful form.

I was checking the brooder this morning & it looks like I have some good color going on. I'll see about posting some pics of the babies. I have no problem putting pics in emails, but this looks a little more complicated. If you would'nt mind, perhaps I will just send them to you & you can post them. Let me know if that will be a bother.

I just heard from a gal in Colorado who I sent eggs to 2 1/2 weeks ago. She says she is on your board. Anyway, all the eggs were fertile & she expects her hatch on Thanksgiving. These were the last eggs laid from my MF group before they stopped laying. I really have my fingers crossed for her. They will be my F2 babies.

That's awesome, Lynne! Yeah, send me the pics and I'll post them. It is a bit of a pain because you have to sign up for a photobucket account, upload your pics to that, then copy and paste the "image" link to your reply. I already have one so no sweat for me

and I can't wait to get the pics.

Tell your baby momma
