Hey Patty, Gator, Mike and other mille cochin enthusiasts

Wow those gold laced crosses are really interesting. I don't think I've seen as much leakage as that before. Mottling seems to have a variety of forms. I think it is affected by modifying genes.
Mottle on a laced pattern, if you were to continue with those, is called tollbunt. Here is an article about Tollbunt wyandottes, if you haven't seen it already.

Tate you birds always look great!

Doc, congratulation on the hatch!

So I'm taking Patty’s advice and I'm going to get rid of a bunch of birds. Here is a picture of 6 or 7 Pullets that colored out really strange. They kind of resemble buff columbian but they seem way lighter. I was going to keep them to see what they'll turn into but like I said earlier, I've got way way too many chicks. So what do you guys think about their coloring? I need to take some pictures of the good colored ones but I've been to busy trying to sell off all the others. I know I keep promising to do it and I will soon.

I have one of those too. I'm keeping it just to see what color it grows out. So sell yours and I will let you know. I REALLY LIKE that color of that bunch you are selling but I do NOT have room for one more variety, PERIOD!!!

I was looking at my birds today and trying to figure out how to make room for a nice bigger pen for my lavender orps. I think I have to sell my golden colored EE hens and one CBM roo. I had him sold before but got side tracked and then it got too hot to ship. I'm sure I can unload the EE hens, as that seems to be the easiest variety to sell. Then I will just have one EE pen of blue/splash with a splash roo, should all lay blue or very pale green. Then I would only have

Copper Black Marans
Blue/Black marans (clean legged, working toward feather legged)
Mottle Javas
B/B/S Silkies, kinda nice ones
Lavender Orps
Blue Egg layer EE's Blue/Splash plumage (with color faults)
Barred Olive eggers
Midget Whites
Bourbon Reds (which I could part with most easily of all)
Mille Fleur Bantam Cochins
and a showgirl roo in with mottled bantam cochin hens! (Culled my roo for attitude, just figured the showgirl roo would like the bigger pen. I should probably disband that flock of mottled hens.)

So, I should take my own advice and sell some birds too! Trouble is, WHICH ONES???

Last ones I would want to sell.
CBM
Midget Whites
Lavender Orps
Silkies
Barred Olive Eggers
Mille cochins

As I recall, your mottleds aren't show quality. I would unload them and the showgirl roo... Instant Pen!!! You aren't in love with the bourbon Reds, so out they go!! Another pen! Folks always love the fancy egg colors so, if you're like them, keep them. Maybe part with your blue/black marans if it's looking like where you want to be is pretty far off.

In WV, we have this thing call Freakin Cold Winters!! and that helps narrow them down really quick. Im not cracking frozen waterers for just anyone.
