That's great doc. I've been getting almost 95% fertile since I plucked their bumbs. I think it also had something to do with spring finally getting here.

Congratulations, and keep us updated

Congrats on your babies!

As for rears -- some people pluck, some people cut. If you pluck, the area will be smoother -- supposedly nicer for the birds. BUT if you do pluck, the feathers will grow back more quickly. I simply trimmed them close to the skin with a small set of scissors. I trimmed an area all around the vent. Be careful, though, because bird skin is quite thin and easily cut by accident!

Congrats on all of the fluffy babies! I am looking forward to pics of the dears!

Doc, you said you found your camera?

And about the trimming - good info - I always wondered how they managed...how wide an area do you trim around, if someone hasnt asked....I'm a long ways off, my eggs wont be mailed to me until Monday, and my current birds are not "allowed" to, well, make chicks!

Thanks.

Yeah yeah yeah, I found the camera.

I'm off to KY for a poultry show today. Maybe tomorrow I'll get pics, but no guarantees!

As for how wide, I dunno what's preferred. I just did it til it looked like enough!

I have other eggs in with them & one has pipped but no other action. I have my hands tied so as not to open that darn door.

My only consolation is that I have more hatching next weekend. It's not a bust yet, just nerve wracking.

Easy for you to say!!!

You know, however, there could be something good in all of this. The bator is in the basement. If I counted the amount of times I have raced up & down today, I wouldn't have to worry about a diet!!!
