They are both really nice Lynne. I know you'll have no problems unloading them.

Remember, all. ...The white keep coming as they mature. So, these girls have a lot of filling out to do.

Ahhh, got my chick pic fix, then you go and put pullet temptation in my path...but I will resist, cause I know that there are eggs coming my way and I may have a chance at some of these dears!

Poor Starbuck, Comet and the Mille Fleur Cochin ladies...I've been telling them they are going to have some serious competition coming when I get new babies from Lynnes eggs..now they are just running around with the rest of the laying flock, "commoners" instead of "royalty" (They have been in a breeder area for quite a few months!) No more special treatment.

They still have traits I think I can use to work with later, but for now they can enjoy their freedom! Silly birds.

Awesome pics - I pass on the girls (sitting on my hands and pocketbook) - Thank you,

Here are my new little Millies that hatched this past week. These are from eggs I received from Lynne. Can't wait to see them grow up!

Thanks, Lynne!!

OMG Paula, they are adorable. Don't you just love their stance!!!?? They look like they could take on the world. Their coloring looks very good for the future. I hope you are pleased.

My little ones from yesterday are like twins. It's a good thing I banded them ASAP or I couldn't tell them apart. We'll talk soon.....

Hey all --

I FINALLY got update pics of all the mf cochins here at Egghead Hill.

You can see pics of the parents, now about 9 months old, here:

Pics of the first chicks, now about 3 months old, here:

Pics of the current batch of chicks, now 3 days old, here:

This may be a good time to get into a discussion of what the mille fleur cochins should be "based" on, genetically speaking. My birds come from Mike, and they are based on wheaten. As you can see, the chicks are quite consistent in appearance. And, basically, they remain consistent as they grow (making allowances for the excess melanization in the two young cockerels).

OTOH, Lynne's birds are mostly *not* wheaten based. Some may be e(b) or e+, others look like something else.

Now, if you go to the chicken calculator, it will tell you that "mille fleur" is e(b) (aka partridge) based -- but other geneticists say that mille fleur is based on E(Wh) (aka wheaten) and/or e+ (aka duckwing, wild type, black-breasted red). So it appears that we could get there through different routes. BUT, whichever route we use, we need to make it consistent so that the birds will breed true.

Anybody got thoughts on this?
