Hey Seasoned Rabbit-ers!!

Well, weaning doesn't mean they just wake up one day and go onto solid food and water. They kinda take a week or two to transfer over to eating only solids, so you should see them eating and drinking and nursing all in the same day if you were to watch the whole day. Over this time period they would start wandering away from the nest some too (if they had space to) and exploring, even relocating to new nest sites. So the fact that they're drinking water is good, it means they're on course to wean, but it doesn't mean they're not nursing any more. Moms will nurse up to 8 weeks old (but they usually stop around 4-5 weeks). I actually had a mom nursing at 7 weeks recently and it was pretty crazy to see five, huge seven week olds under this one little doe I have.

I guess I was thinking more like with babies, I didn't know if water this soon was a bad thing. They've got room to explore, it's funny: they'll all be out and then they'll catch sight of me and box it for the nest. Haha I've been trying to handle them each at least once a day, so they get used to being handled. It's been a fun experience.

Hello!
My husband got me some FG for my birthday..and to my great suprize he really enjoys our "house Rabbits"! He was sure Rabbits are for eating, and not housecats. They eagerly join us on the bed or recliner when we watch t.v. They are quite heavy but their litter boxes aren't as smelly as a cats. Pan and Terra are harness broke and a joy!
Pan/Terra travel well and are quiet.
I had 2 separate does several years ago and along with my German Shepherds, traveled with me to disaster sites. The dogs could find people and a child that has lost everything could be comforted by gently cuddly a huge, understanding gentle giant. Both of those sweet does lived a long time but sadly I did not realize until Pan/Terra that Rabbits are very social and entertaining as a group!
Terra raised her litter of 7 and a orphan litter somebody brought us with no problems. Admittedly her next allowed litter of 8 got bigger faster so there is wisdom in above posts..but the orphans were so far gone I was desperate to save them ! We do not continually breed, she is family not a pez candy toy spitting out kits, but we placed babies as pets or as 4H to help our poor kids here get a chance to show. Rabbits are good eating..but we get much more out of them as pets! We do allow them outside when we can watch them and feed fodder and carrots in addition to pellets and cider vinegar

. We empty litter boxes into our black solder fly larvae brooders to feed the larvae we feed the chickens!

I love my flemishes... They like to scamper about the house and yard :) Do you raise FG for meat?

I have four New Zealand/ California mix that need homes. They were born on the 10th of October, and will be ready for homes the 10th of December. They are great little buns, we handle them all everyday. I would like to get 15 for each, but if you want to buy all four the price is negotiable.

Two albinos, one that looks like mama (her name is Bessie cause she looks like a Holstein) and one "reverse skunk". If you're in the Indy area and interested, let me know!
