Hey Southerners! Sweet Tea Recipe Please!

Pretty much the same way my family has always done it.
1 small pot with a few cups of water in it and 10 tea bags. Put tea bags in and bring to a boil, take off heat and steep just a minute. Then pour that in your pictiure and add 1 cup of sugar and stir. Then fill with water. Makes about a gallon.

Down here in good ole Alabam I buy gallon size Red Diamond tea bags. This is the best tea I have ever had. I won't go to a place to eat that doesn't have good iced tea. I heat the water to boil in tea kettle and pour over tea bag in teapot. Let it steep 7 min and pour up in pitcher. A little over a cup will sweeten a gallon.

Our Texan sweet tea is basically the same as others. To make basic 'mamaw tea':
Boil 4 cups of water in a medium sized sauce pan- remove from heat and add 3 family sized tea bags - steep covered for 5 minutes - while steeping, add 1-1/2 to 2 cups of sugar to gallon pitcher (some like it sweeter

) - pour hot steeped tea over sugar and stir until dissolved - add 1 tray of ice cubes and fill pitcher with cold water - enjoy a tall glass on the back porch while watching Chicken TV

Recently, though, DH has had to go 'sugar-free' so we use Splenda - same measurements and tastes great. I know some can't handle chemical sweetners but Splenda doesn't seem to affect us.

I make mine using Jean's methods also - steeping for a long period of time is the trick. However, I make a flavored tea that is SOOOO refreshing. For a 2 quart pitcher: 3 Family size tea bags and 2 peach flavored bags (reg. size). You can use decaffenated and it doesn't taste any different and doesn't keep you awake all night when you have it with "Supper" (dinner).

Bring tea bags and small pot of water to boil on stove - once at boiling point turn heat all the way down and let it simmer for at least 20 minutes. Important not to let it boil because bags will break open.

Then add hot tea water to pitcher - squeezing out bags - add 2 full cups of sugar (yes, we like our sweet tea SWEET) - stir till sugar is dissolved and then fill remainder of pitcher with cold water - then add the juice from 2 lemons (I squeeze the lemons and then rake all the pulp I can get out with a fork and into tea pitcher). Stir and serve over a full glass of ice.

Anyway - the best most refreshing flavored sweet tea. Wish this was my recipe but it came from a dear friend. Everyone asks her to bring the tea to an event.

every morning i get up and fill a picture with cool water.. i use red rose tea bags and put 4 in and let it soak all day.. no bitterness and very nice tea. sweeten to taste.. it is easy and no heat involved. i have done this with jasmine, mint, orange, what ever you feel like making that day
