I've had chickens for over a year, an Isa brown and an Americuna. Got four new chicks this spring, can't tell you what they are besides just so darn cute. Haha, of the four, my little buddy, Nightingail, has inspired me to join because I can't find her eye. So please find my thread about that and help me keep my chick... thanks!:-)

I took a look at your thread. I am sorry about your baby. I am not sure what you can do. Is there an eye there at all? Sometimes chicks are born with out eyes. If she has not pooped at all, she may not be eating or drinking. So you may want to dip her beak in the water and sprinkle some feed around and tap with your fingers to get her to eat.

Some chicks like this just don't make it. But if you have any antibacterial eye ointment you can slather in the eye area, that will help greatly. Human grade stuff is fine. I hope someone can help you in the emergency section. But if at any time she is suffering, you might need to put her down. Do you have an avian vet you can take her to?

I hope you can get her back to good health soon.

I can't tell if there is an eye. It doesn't look like it, but I could be wrong. I've never looked very closely till now. And she is hungry, because she was pecking at a little, but I think she's just in so much pain that she doesn't want to do either. And no, we don't have a vet to take her to. It might be horrible but, if she doesnt seem like she'll make it then she will meet something I don't want to do to her...

She may not be in pain, I think it is more uneasiness because her vision is off and everything is new to her. It probably is overwhelming. Was she like this (no eye) when you first got her, or did she have an incident with other chicks that attacked her? I hate to think someone would knowingly sell you a chick like that - though I've heard of worse things from sellers.

Chickens have amazing recuperative powers and I have read of many blind or partially blind birds that did just fine, birds that lost a leg or wing etc. They learn to compensate.

She needs her food and water to always be in the same place, so she can find them. If the other chicks harass her , she may do much better in her own little area without the competition and rowdiness for now. Hope she will turn the corner and be fine.
