Hi. I have what I think is an American Game Rooster and today he stopped running around and can barely open his eyes. A friend told me to give him sugar water and make sure he eats and drinks. I have a hen in with him and he also said to keep them together still because she might be sick to but she doesn't act like it. Any advise??

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your boy. You might want to post about your roo in the Emergencies forum https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures I would separate him from the hen so you can bring him in to watch him and make sure he is in a warm spot... if you have other birds do keep the hen separate from them. Have you given him a thorough all over exam to see if you can find anything wrong? Any injuries or anything? What exactly is he doing?

Thank you for the link. I could not find anywhere else to post besides new members. The only thing I can find wrong with him is his nails are really long. He wont barely move. And can barely open his eyes

Good luck with your poultry raising adventures, and I hope you find everything you need to know. Don't forget to take a look at BYC's very useful learning center (If you haven't already)! The learning center as well as the forum should answer your questions! Glad to have you here!

Have you examined him for any signs of injury, mites, lice etc.? Has he been wormed at all? Parasites can bring a bird down fast. Is the feed fresh and dry, moldy food can kill birds.

When you post on the emergencies thread please give as much detail as possible, his age, how long he has been ill. Any new symptoms like blood in poo, etc. You could try and tempt him to eat by giving him boiled mashed egg yolk or plain vanilla yogurt, etc. He may like chopped grapes or watermelon - anything to get fluids inside.

Has he been exposed to any fertilizers or weed killers or rodent poison that maybe neighbors put out?

No injury etc. Not sure on the wormed, I got him from my neighbor the other day. We have a very big yard but he has been confined with the little game bantam hen we have. I dont think their food got molded. And thank u. And also no exposure to poisons.
