A chinook is a warming wind that can elevate temps precipitously in the space of a few moments, often creating thermal shock. People have had their windshields shatter, etc. It's awfully hard on plate glass windows, too. Nice though, to lose the cold so quickly.what is a chinook?
Looks like it missed us.I heard the rumor that a Chinook is due here on Monday.
It isn't a really major Chinook but it did take me from -17°F up tp 28°F. Today it got up to 38°F.Looks like it missed us.![]()
We have to deal with it every year so we are always prepared. There are heated waterers and I also use my bury the bucket in manure method. When it was -17°F, I had an 1/8" of ice on top that I would break up and skim off in the mornings. The poultry would keep the water open the rest of the day.How in the world for you northerners deal with this icy cold white crap regularly?
I hate frozen waterers.
I can promise you I will be prepared for next year when this disaster happens again. We have to deal with it every year so we are always prepared. The reason this really gets people is that these events are typically considered 100 year events. It really is not normal for this to be happening to you.I can promise you I will be prepared for next year when this disaster happens again.
