I decided to join because I had a recent question pertaining to babies and grown hens. I appreciate all the responses and am happy to be a new member of this group!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
1st set of chickens 3 years ago, I learned the hard way and lost all but 1 of my 1st set of babies. Raccoons are not friends....

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 9

(3) What breeds do you have? Red star, australorp, maran, barred rock & bantam brahma

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? They are more than chickens, they have personalities and are all different.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Shooting, boating, fishing, fires ...ect, if its outdoor... count me in!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. We had a cat named Aloe who was best friends with out chickens. He would sneak into the coop to nap with the hens. Unfortunately he went missing 6 months ago.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I 1st heard of BYC when I initially bought chickens. My boyfriend told me I could have chickens and that he would build me a coop when I got home... we on April 10th 3 years ago I came home with 7 babies.... the rest is history. Google helped and brought me here :)

Welcome to Backyard Chickens- glad to have you with us! Just let me know if you need any help with your chooks/other animals or navigating the site :)

Still learning the site. I posted about my hens and had several messages back but ended up going with my gut instinct. Tonight is the 1st night my babies chicks are staying in an enclosed coop with a maran hen I adopted last week that was previously abused by her last flock. I'm anxious and worried tonight but praying everything goes well.

Thank you!!

I'm also in the process of integrating. I found some great advice here on BYC and had a very smooth and easy integration last year, hoping for a repeat this year. Here are some links that really helped:

Best wishes!
