Heya all you Paypal fiends, could you help me out? Please? :)

I'd just wait for her to pay cash, personally.

Otherwise, the only way you can be completely protected is for her to pay you but NOT pick up the puppy until the payment clears (and they can put a hold on it for several days) AND you've withdrawn the money. If you give her the puppy and she files a complaint with them while the money is still in your account they will put a hold on it and (almost always) rule in her favor and take the money back out of your account.

She might be completely on the up and up, but I'd just wait because even if she is 100% truthful, you'll actually get the money in your hands faster waiting for the weekend than waiting for it to clear and for Paypal to transfer it.

Ah I see, thanks for the replies everyone.
I certainly don't want to end up waiting and I don't want to have sent it before I know whether it is immediate or not.
Sounds like I should wait then, cause I'm not willing to risk it. I do prefer cash in hand but I had never thought of paypal stuff so I thought I'd ask.
Maybe I'd try it when threes isn't a larger sum of money at stake, just to see how it works.

Thanks again everyone! Isn't it great we have a place like this to come to for help on basically anything?

***FYI: Paypal will take out a percentage of the $ for themselves, so you will not get the full amount.***

When I send $ to people I know (like they pick up something for me and I need to pay them back), I figure out the percentage and add in what will be taken out, so my friend still gets the full amount. I can't remember off hand for positive what the percentage is, but say to send my friend $15, I had to send something like $15.76

Not a huge deal if it's $10-20 but if the puppy costs say $500 (no idea what it does cost) it could be a decent amount you would lose.

Happens all too often, PayPal usually sides with the (often falsely) protesting buyer. Wait for Saturday, get cash in hand AND have the buyer sign a detailed receipt.

That is really good to know for future reference. I had thought Paypal was more safe. I emailed her, and told her I'd rather wait till the weekend. She was fine with it, I think she just wants to ensure she gets the puppy she wants cause I don't do holds or promise that I'll still have them.
Also, I have learned to make and get receipts for all sales I make- so no problem remembering that one.

I think a BYCer had someone called about a puppy and she PayPalled her and the money returned as insufficent funds. When dealing with pets like cats, dogs, very expensive birds, I would hold out for CASH. Something tells me it is a bogus.........I hope I am wrong!
