Hi, I have an HHD Incubator that has a little bit of a temperature issue. It struggles to rise 99.5°F. It seems stay about 97.8°F to 98.2°F and I'll fight it to rise. I did manage to get the temperature to 99.5°F, but it fell this morning. I forgot to mention, I have it covered with a towel to keep heat steady, but it doesn't help much. Have any ideas that might help?

Are you using a calibrated thermometer or relying on what the unit is telling you?

It's best to set your high temp at the warmest part of the day and let it drift down like when it is cooler in the morning to avoid temp spikes. Not sure this will help, but maybe worth trying.

Add more than one towel... making sure not to cover the vent holes.

More than that... I have several bators including that one... it gives my worst hatches ever. If replacing it is an option, that's the best suggestion of all!

This one is my replacement incubator, my first one kept trying to cook the chicks in there eggshells. I'm relying on a separate temperature/hygrometer system that's more accurate then the one built in.

I have that thermometer... it can be very inaccurate... Might depend on how fresh the battery is... :barnie

I have battery operated thermometers lose their accuracy mid hatch all the time!

Just yesterday... that thermometer was reading 25 degrees low but my eggs hatched 1 day early indicating temp was actually high.

Can't wait to see how many chicks are in there today! :wee

The one I have, it's humidity is only off by 1% is all.

Since I did not know about keeping my HHD inside the bottom Styrofoam shell, I found a large carboard box and cut it down to fit the bator and then used bubble wrap and Styrofoam to insulate the sides and bottom... being very careful to have the vent hole in the from. I covered the top with a small bathmat and a towel and the temp held great during this last incubation cycle.

Okay, I don't have much room to do that, our table is a bit cluttered and that's where I keep my incubator. I'm incubating Turkey, and chicken eggs. Today is day 8 for the Turkey eggs, and day 3 for the chicken eggs. Just thought I include that.
