Hi all I'm a complete novice but tips on showing please?

This was exactly the question I had. My 16 year old daughter joined FFA this year and signed up for a poultry chain project through the county extension agent. We got 25 cinnamon queen chickens through them and have to show 3 of them in the local county fair. Now we are wondering how to decide which ones are the best to show. We are complete newbies. Have 7 1/2 acres and mainly house pets. We are loving the chickens and the extension agent and his helpers told us ours were the friendliest chickens they saw in 2 days of giving immunizations. Still want to know what to look for and best way to raise a great show chicken. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'd love to help, but I know nothing of that breed (Never heard of it if I am honest...but there are a LOT of breeds I don't know.) My suggestion would be to read the standard as best you can and pick a few you think are the best. You can try posting pictures here (on Breeds Genetics and Showing) to get opinions as to which are the best and some people might be able to help.

There are a few judges and/or knowledgeable show people around here. NYREDS is an experienced judge if I am not mistaken.

Silver Laced Wyandotte crossed with New Hampshire gives the Cinnamon Queen.

They are also known as Sex links, since their sex can be recognized at hatching, usually by color.

They are not poultry show material.

Well this is a 4H project and they are the chickens we are required to show. Given to us by the project. They have done this project for several years in our area also. I will try to look up some more information. Thanks.

Production breeds, such as Cinnamon Queens, are commonly used as 4H fair projects.
