Hi everybody, I am from north west England near Liverpool and I am in the process of learning about keeping chickens and I've just ordered my chicken brooder!!!! I'm only going to have 3 or 4 hens, no rooster as I live on a very well housed estate with neighbours on all sides, so a rooster will be a no no. I have ordered a book on how to raise chickens and different breeds and as I can only have 3 or 4 due to space in my back yard from a coup and run maximum of about 7/8ft I don't think any more than 3 or 4 birds is feasible. The hens we get will be primarily pets and secondary egg layers for us. I've never had any chickens before and I'm super excited to get started!!! My husband and I are starting a new lifestyle of growing our own vegetables and ordering meat from only a small farmer with free range animals and quick instant kill methods as I refuse to eat animals from a regular slaughter house bulk industry anymore after some of the things I've seen. Anyway I'm waffling haha, the chickens are part of that for me with the free range eggs, so this is part of a much larger exciting project for my family! I hope to meet lots of nice people on here who have experience and can answer my questions and help me make the right choices for my birds when I get them to make sure I'm not missing anything and my birds are happy and healthy! Thanks a lot everybody

Welcome to BYC!

You do sound egg-cited! Chickens are a lot of fun to keep and raise. You will really enjoy interacting with them, watching their antics and collecting those eggs. Definitely stop by our learning center to help you get started and learn more things. Kelsie has left you with the link there.

Enjoy this new adventure you are on and welcome to our flock!
