Hi, after ducks taking bath and being in the water for two days, I think it is good in one way that ducks are not doing into the Koi pond since it will increase PH if algae increase so quickly. Kois will get a shick. I have 210 watt UV lights in the pond but still it will be problems for PH increase since algae increase PH. This is the small pond and look what what only three ducks did with in two days. I just clean this on friday.

Male duck is molting.

Thiis before duck came to this house and the next photo is after changing this water on friday and today is sunday.

In one sense it is great that ducks are not going in to the big Koi pond since it will be a problem with PH imbalance. I donot know I can put a sump pump in and just water my lawn with it but it is shocking to look at this water from my eat-in-area.. Just want some friendly advise as per how to clarify this water? I did put algae cleaner which is fish and all bird safe but still it does not help.

Anything that will clarify at a rate the ducks mess it up will most likely kill off your koi.

Notice when this wild mallard duck landed couple of yeards back my Kois chased them out. I guess they know better....

With a pond that small, I don't know that there is a way to clear the water. Barley straw can help, but as Kevin565 said, the rate of input will exceed the ability to clarify.

You might try adding a pump and sand filter system, but that is probably a larger project than replacing the water after the ducks use it.

Stop being lazy n clean it, or build it with a pump n sandfilter, or get rid of it, or don't let he ducks in, or deal with it. its beautiful. if I were u id leave it, clean it n deal with it. no price to pay when those beautiful family duck r loving your kind pond!!!

Please look at my profile picture, this is the small pond and they finally went to the large pond stream but won't go to the big pond water due to having Kois.

The small pond is to jsut keep some water plants and clear water but I am dealing with it now the way I can.

I agree that with that small pond you are just going to have to drain and refill. Trying to make an effective filter system is possible, but a lot of work and maintenance. The water actually looks pretty good to me for a small pond that has had ducks in it for two days.

Another option is to fill in this pond with gravel and make it a bog garden just with plants (nice to look at from your dining area) and provide a small kiddie pool elsewhere that you can more easily drain and refill. Would that be easier do you think?

All new duck owners deal with these issues so you are not alone :)
