Hi! :frow As you may have already found out, I am new to BYC. I am looking forward to meeting everyone, so let me introduce myself!

I own an old, white farmhouse on 3.5 acres up in the state of Illinois. When I was younger, I had always dreamed of having a farm one day, and it looks as if that dream is coming true.

I have decided that I want chickens first, just to get a feel for the farm life, you know? So, two days ago I took the plunge and ordered 9 chickens, 3 ducks and 3 geese. The chickens and ducks are shipping first on April 23rd, so they’ll be here either April 24th or April 25th. I am so excited! :celebrate

I am picking up supplies for the chickies and duckies either tomorrow or monday. I want my first run with poultry to be a good one, so I have done a bit of research. I may not know as much as some people here on BYC do, so any advice you have for me is greatly appreciated! :)

Now it’s your turn! Share some stories and pics down in the comment section. :) I’d love to read your stories and see your birds (again, advice is greatly appreciated ;))!

Hi and welcome to BYC

Here’s a good link where you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find Your State Thread

Best wishes
