Thanks for the add!
I'm new to the chicken scene having got my first rooster (Sir Rodger) quickly followed by Princess Fiona both cream legbars and both were born May 22nd 2018.
Rodger was a little too amorous with Fiona and so I went on to search for more ladies. I quickly added as my divas! Goldie Hawn (Golden Laced Wyandotte. Born May)
Josie Moran (Blue Moran aged 18 months) and Sophia Loren (Silver Laced Wyandotte aged 5 years: rescued)
Sir Rodger has turned out to be VERY protective of his girls and I never go into the run without being armed with my little old cornbroom. Lol. He's had one or two attitude adjustments and for the most part is pretty well behaved!!
We live in the Grande Ronde valley on our farm (outside of La Grande, OR) in the middle of the wheatfields.
I found BYC after reading a forum on worming chickens in Oregon Chicken Lovers!
Yes, I'm hooked!!
I'm sure I'll be using the resources and picking brains a LOT as chickens were the furthest from my mind... I'm sure learning a lot!!
We're predominantly a grain farm but also have 5 horses, 5 beagles and a basset.... And now 5 chickens. I'm noticing a theme here!! My hubby and I also have my oldest daughter and two teen granddaughters living with us.

Thank you so much! Yes I love where I live!
I'm a transplant from the North Wales Coast in the UK (been here 20 years) and I love the seasons here.
The chickens appear to be really happy thankfully as I'm still learning!! My two youngest ladies are still laying despite wind storms and freezing temps!!

Hello Wendy and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Good for you for not just putting your rooster in the freezer and instead working with him.

Thank you.
I'm not giving up on him despite being told by the breeder that Rodger was useless and should be culled! I'm hoping he mellows with age....
He loves his girls and they definitely listen to him, the thought of him leaving (no matter how) is not an option. Rodger's very respectful of the broom despite having challenged it a few times.... And found out its not for show! The first time he attacked my leg was the last time as it was quite painful and it was at knee height. Had two new knees not too long ago and both are super sensitive in that area. I make him step back several times by walking in his space and that helps. The broom is for backup! LOL

Howdy Wendy :frow and Welcome to Backyard Chickens.

Glad to have you here with us. Enjoy your time here at BYC!

Thanks for joining our community! :celebrate

Thank you!
I can see I'm going to feel very at home here. And more's to the point... Feel comfortable asking dumb questions!
Forgive me for the REALLY dumb ones in advance.. :bow

There are no 'dumb' questions, they may just sound that way at the time.
