Hi All
My name is Tom and I live in NE Wisconsin, brand new to chickens although I do raise quail for meat and eggs and rabbits. Glad to be here and Im sure Ill have lots of
questions
I just ordered my chicks from a wisconsin hatchery Purely Poultry, I decided on buff orpingrons, black astrolorps, gold laced winedotts and buckeyes.

I do have a question I work 6 days a week, My birds will be in a large inclosed run and coop, from november untill mid January its dark when I get home from work and I will not be able to put them up for the night till then, will they usually go in the coop at dark??
Thanks and glad to be part.
Tom

Hello! Welcome to BYC!! :frow

Great breeds you're getting! You're chickens will go into their coop at dusk(ish) and will come out on their own at dawn (ish). As long as your coop and run are predator proof, they should be just fine.

Feel free to check out the links below for some interesting reading. Good luck on your adventures!

Hi Tom, welcome to BackYard Chickens, thanks for joining! :frow

Chickens will almost always go inside for night, unless for some reason the outdoors are more appealing. As long as your run is well secured, you don't even need to close them in, but if you feel like you should, that's alright too.

Welcome, Tom! Glad to have you here! There will be lots of folks to answer your question (I’m not really qualified, being a chicken-hopeful myself). If not, feel free to ask it again in the coop construction thread, or maybe the flock management thread. Chicken people are standing by!

:welcome
