Hi, my name is Dana and I am from Louisiana. I am new to BYC and can tell that I am going to love this site as well as raising and breeding chickens. Just to be able to teach my daughter the wonderful advantages of raising our own animals is exciting! We just purchased 4 chicks, (2 roosters and 2 hens) and the whole family is excited about it and ready to get started! We built our chicken coop last night and are getting ready to build a few more!! We are also going to get us some ducks as well and maybe some other animals.

you'll need several more hens if you plan on keeping both roos. One rooster to about 8-10 hens is a better ratio, otherwise the hens will be seriously overbred and tattered.
