My family and I are currently in NY but are moving in a month to Arkansas. I will be attending the University of Arkansas as will my wife. I get to play with food in a chemistry, biology, and physics labs while she gets to become a nutritionist. Our daughter is headed to sixth grade. We have always wanted to have fresh eggs so we will start a garden and get us some chicks. The only thing is we do not know what are the better breeds to raise in the Fayetteville area. If anyone could help, thank you in advance.

Welcome to the site. You might try doing a search for Arkansas on the site. I don't know about Arkansas but Indiana has thread. That will get you in touch with some of the local fanciers.
