Thank you for an awesome site. Found you on the net whilst trying to figure out why our 'hen' was crowing! We originally purchased what we were told were 6 Rhode Island Red two month old pullets, three of which turned out to be roos!! Thankfully we have very understanding neighbors who were very patient while we secured a new home for our boys on a farm on the North Coast of KZN.

Definitely a learning experience, and one I don't want to repeat, especially not with a nine year old who was devastated at having to say goodbye to Mayo, Chili and Sassy. Now we wait for our 5 new CERTIFIED ladies (Hi-Line Browns) to come of age so we can collect them from Maggie Scratchings Farms

I've learned so much from your site and can't thank you enough for all the valuable information. I look forward to reading through all your experiences and advice and can't wait to start sharing our stories with you all.

Best regards,
MamaBird

Sorry to hear about the unexpected roosters, it is very hard on children. Thank you for joining us at Backyard chickens.

Good morning, welcome to BYC!

Thank you! Learning so much from the group while we wait for the arrival of our new pullets

My avatar is a photo of Rocky, our Rhode Island Red (fingers crossed that's what she is because her sisters turned out to be brothers so now we're not sure she's a RIR!!)

WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Happy dance

Our RIR, Rocky, laid her first egg (55 grams) the day before yesterday, and her second egg yesterday afternoon (46 grams).

Congrats, that 1st egg is so egg-citing!
