Hey all my soon to be fellow chicken lovers.

I'm so new to this. My preschooler came home a few weeks ago and told me they were hatching chickens in her class and she wanted to bring some home when they were ready.

Ha ha ha, so I obliged. I told her and my other 2 girls that we could get 1 each.

They hatched 3 different kinds - Americauna, Maran and Leghorn - we should be getting one of each.

We have the coop setup in our backyard...have all the supplies...the little suckers are coming home early next week and they'll be a little less than 2 weeks old.

This will be my first experience with chickens as an adult - so we'll see how it goes.

Welcome from Georgia!! You have got plenty of warm chicken clothes for the winter right? I've been told it gets pretty cold up there.

That's the way to start your flock-just dive right in with the kids and do what needs to be done.

I am curious as to how chickens survive an Alaskan winter?
