I am new to the group and am soooo very glad to find all of you! I've wanted chickens for many years and last Oct. bought 5 Bar Rocks...just in time for the worst winter in many many years. 60" of snow south of the Mason Dixon lines is not good for these llittle girls soooo they lived in my basement for over a month. My 2 German Shepherds were wishing the door to open, but thankfully there was no drama.

I am a paralegal, mother of 3 grown beautiful girls, grandmother of 4 fantastic grandchildren. I've totaly enjoyed having my hens and a few weeks ago added 2 Rhode Island Reds to the group. I am amazed by the pecking order process - not pretty and sometimes upsetting.

I wish you all the best with your flocks and life!

from California. We heard about your winter! Sounded terrible. Yes that pecking order is hard to watch. I used to watch as they got up on the roost but, as you say, it was painful it see how they treated each other. Hope this site will be helpful to you!
