Hi everyone!
I'm quite new to raising chickens. The property we moved to already has a decent size coop and we kept the two Barred Rock hens ( I believe that's what they are) from the previous owners. They are pretty shy but I've been working with them. I picked up some Isa Browns (straight run) chick's from our local Tractor Supply. Some advice on how to introduce them to the hens once they're ready to go out in the coop? :)

The best way to introduce new chicks to hens is by using the "see but don't touch" method. This involves putting a barrier in between the two groups of the chickens so they can't reach and attack one another but can still meet each other. Do this for about 2-3 weeks if possible. The longer the better. Then you can let them mix. Make sure that they have lots of room to run and get away from one another. Give them hideaways and extra feeders and waterers. (Bossy hens will hog feeders and starve the others.)

It will probably take about a month for them to get all acquitted with each other. The key is time, patience and space. The chicks should be at least 8 weeks before you start the introducing process.

Try dried mealie worms to help taming the BR, no chicken can resist those :)
