Just joining the forum. We had chickens for about 5 years and then moved 4 years ago. Bought a variety of “pullets” from TSC almost 4 weeks ago. Can’t wait to put these babies out in our spanking new Eglu cube. It will be warm enough today that they can at least have some time in the run.

Has anyone used the “electric hen” in a coop initially if temps are not above 50 all night?

Good morning, welcome to BYC. I'm not sure what a electric hen is, but I've used a brooder plate outdoors. Mine are generally raised in the coop.

Hi, the "electric hen" you mention...is that where you use a heating pad for chicks to warm up under? A lot of members here have used the "mama heating pad" for their chicks...you can use the Search tool to find posts about their experiences.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC!!

We use a Cozy Coop radiant heater if we put them outside and they are under 6-weeks old and/or the temps are below 60F at night.

Otherwise, we've just hauled them in for the night, and put them back outside in the morning. That gets old fast though!
