I've been lurking in and off for about a year, enjoying my 3 hens.
I've recently purchased a broody hen with a few chicks (2 BCMs and 3 muscovey ducklings. She adopted my 2 americauna babies in the middle if the night when I brought her home. I also have 3 silkies and a blue copper maran that she wouldn't adopt.

I hope they bring you great joy all throughout their lives!

If you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask. Make yourself at home here on BYC and welcome to our flock!

I'm sure she had her reasons - were the rejected chicks older. Maybe they didn't seem to need mothering to her, so she just put her foot down.

One of the rejected chicks was older, but about the same size as the two ameraucanas that she adopted a day or two before. But there was also a new hatchling in that that group, along with two in between in age/size. I'm breaking all the rules about putting chicks of different ages together, but they don't fight so I guess it's ok.
The orphans are doing pretty well in their box in the garage.
