Hi from upstate NY!

My family got our first chicks in spring 2021 from tractor supply and have had so much fun learning and caring for our flock.

We started with 4 pullets (2 ISAs and 2 Jersey Giants) and 2 (accidental) cockerels (unknown breed), of which we still have 2 Jersey hens and the 2 roos.

Last year we got another 6 pullets from cackle hatchery (2 Orpingtons, 1 black star, 1 Easter egger, 1 brahma, and 1 australorp) and 2 (accidental) cockerels(1 olive egger and 1 brahma), for a total of 12 current chickens.

I live on 8 forested acres with my parents and three siblings, and our 5 cats, 2 dogs, 1 rabbit, and 2 parakeets. The chicks were our first experience with keeping real livestock animals, though I did work at a farm sanctuary for some time. The animals are my personal passion and reason for living. I can't imagine life without them.

I joined BYC forums to talk about my birds, share my experiences, and hopefully learn a bit more from other chicken keepers.

Stay frosty,
ChickenBrawk
