I have used this website as a reference for years!! I joined today because I am trying to rehome or swap my hand raised, sweet 20 week Heritage Rhode Island Red. He is friendly with my dog.
Can't keep in my neighborhood, he has only crowed a couple times.
If anyone knows other avenuesto find him a good home, please advise...
I went to the Flock swap at Urban Chicken yesterday. Got a few leads.

Hi there! I was told yesterday from a reputable breeder because of his deep red color? I truly wouldn't know? I bought him as a pullet.

Sorry, that's not the case. Color is just one facet of a true RIR, and his is not even close to correct. Many places - even those who most would call reputable - do indeed refer to Production Reds as RIRs, but it's not correct and adding heritage to the title may cause some confusion. Here are some photos of true Rhode Island Reds, to help illustrate the difference:

I wouldn't be so nitpicky except that you are trying to rehome him - best to have him correctly labeled.
