Hi from Oregon!

Hello all! I'm Rebecca, I live in the lovely Willamettte valley in Western Oregon. A little over a year ago, my fiance and I moved to my late grandma's old farm house and we've been fixing it up and slowly getting it back to being somewhat of a functioning farm/homestead. Aside from our flock of chickens, we've got rabbits as well as a large garden, hay fields/pastures, a small forested area, and we hope to add goats, and maybe a pond + ducks someday soon.

I kept chickens for 4H back when I was in high school, and had a really great experience with that. When we moved to the farm I knew I wanted to have chickens again, so our first spring here we brought home 6 wyandotte pullets (3 gold laced, 3 silver laced) from the feedstore. This spring we added 9 more to our flock (4 silver laced wyandotte pullets, 4 gold laced pullets, and one little gold laced cockerel) which are getting close to being ready to meet the rest of the flock and start their lives as free ranging farm chickens.

I've lurked around here for a while and decided to finally make an account so that I could talk to others who are featherbrained like-minded!
Hi Rebecca! Glad you joined. I am also in Oregon, Central Oregon to be exact. I am new to chickens just got my first batch back in March. Just wanted to say hi

Hi Nicole! Central Oregon is beautiful, very different over there from the west side of the cascades! What kind/s of chickens do you have?

Hello there! Having lived in Eugene I have to agree. It's very different but each place has it's own unique beauty. I have 5 7 week old pullets (hoping they are anyway) 4 Ameraucana's and 1 Barred rock and loving every minute of it. I just wished I would have started raising chickens sooner.

Hi Rebecca! I found your post because I live in willamette too! It sounds like you have a great set up and I was wondering if you might want or be in need of a free broody buff Orpington lol? I have a small back yard flock of 6 hens and my BO “honey” has been broody three times this year already! every time I break her of it she eventually lays one or two eggs and then returns to her broody ways! She was one in February and is very healthy, unfortunately though with such a small flock her lack of egg production has a big impact especially in peak season! Anyway I want her to have a good home and am sure she would enjoy farm life lol so she’s free to a good home, let me know if you’re interested, thanks Jenna.
