So glad you could join our community!

Enjoy this new journey you are on and feel free to ask questions along the way. Welcome to our flock!

Thanks, Michael.

I guess my only concern with pullets is not having the ability to raise them from the beginning to be comfortable with people and their flock mates. For the first-time owner, I guess it is important to see the birds through their lifespan. With pullets, there's an unknown of what the first few months of their life was like. Glad to hear your experience with pullets was positive. Thanks for the encouragement. DF

You've welcome. All my pullet orders have been chicks, so the only lifespan they've seen up to that point is the 2 or 3 days from hatching to my home via shipping with the post office.)

I always thought of pullets has juvenile hens. I guess it was one of the many nuances I will learn.

so glad you are joining us. Pullets are juvenile hens….they are called pullets til one year old, then called hens..

I will bet your wife gets more excited about your chickens once you get them..they are so much fun..and the eggs are quite eggciting!

As sunflour said, pullets are juvenile hens. When you order chicks from a hatchery all female orders are sold as pullets, all male order are sold as cockerels, and packaged as hatched is sold as straight run. The reason that most hatcheries only guarantee 90 % on sexed orders is because newly hatched chicks have to be vent or winged sex (depending on the breed), which is usually accurate, but not always.
