Hi everyone

Im from the Karoo in South Africa, we have a very arid climate. I have decided to implement permaculture principles and thus far we are getting great results.

Around 5 weeks ago we got 8 chickens. 1 Rooster and 7 pullets. I have found some great advice on this site and decided to join.

Here is a photo of our chickens working trough the neighbor's grass clippings before we start composting it.

My 4 year old son named most of them.
We have:
Rooster: Piet (Common name in our home language)
Pullets:
Skoenlapper(Butterfly)
Chickalleta(watching too much paw patrol, and she is the whitest one we have)
Esther(the brave one)
Big red(which ended up not being so big)
Blacky(for obvious colour reasons)
Blommetjie(Little flower)
Pote(legs, because she works through grass like crazy). I wanted to call her boude(bums, drumsticks) because she has all the right curves in all the right places.

The rooster and 6 pullets are Boschvelder breed, the black and red one are unknown.

I might have gone a bit crazy with the chickens since inception. I still have 4 of my original flock and the 3 Bantams that came afterwards, the other rooster and 3 hens were sold to someone that wanted a few free range chickens.

But since then I have added the following:
1 SGL Wyandotte rooster
3 GL Wyandotte hens
1 SL Wyandotte cockerel
1 SL Wyandotte pullet
1 Blue Brahma cockerel
2 Brahma pullets(1 blue and 1 black)
1 Blue Pekin rooster
3 Pekin hens(2 lavender, 1 black)
4 Lohmann brown pullets(for laying)
4 Muscovies ( 1 drake, 3 ducks)
