Sorry to hear about the losses from your own dog. I wonder if socializing your dog to the chickens would help... on leash in a controlled environment of course. I trained my highly excitable dog the "leave it" command and gave her a very high value treat (hot dog pieces or grilled chicken) every time she looked away from my birds. Sometimes just taking away the mystery of something so exciting and creating a different situation will work wonders. Now Daisy can be in the yard together with the chickens. She leaves them alone because she discovered her own high value reward... chicken poop! :sick

After 18 months we've never had an incident, because she's still supervised. But I've heard of many people training their chicken-killing dogs to actually become great flock protectors.
