Hi From Weezy

My Friend said she is taking them up in Janesville somewhere. Cost was 5.00 per chicken. Chickens only lay for about 2 to 3 years. So if some are older it might be time to have them butchered. Yeah we had ours in a little box I used as a place to grow tomatoes indoors. It didn't work so we took it down and had it in the garage. It was 4'h x 4'l x 2'w we knew it wouldn't be good in the winter. We have a oil filled radiator style heater in our new coop. and on cold days I don't even open the outside door. We have a blood hound that wants to eat my chickens. He got one that had gotten out of it's pen but she protected herself and he ended up scared of her. but he tries to get them all the time. I will find out again from my friend where she has taken her hens.
This is their new pen and coop. We are working on it a little at a time as well. I can't wait to start having enough eggs to sell them. We eat a lot of them tho. The dog Tater is laying in his spot at the gate. His favorite meal is chicken and Root beer.

Yeah we got a new dog who seemed to be OK with the chickens and then we walked out one day and he had killed 5 of them grrr. We got a training collar for him and now he doesn't even look at the chickens but we definitely supervise him with them. I am thinking I have 5-6 hens I would like to have processed as long as my kids don't protest to strongly. My daughter says she does not want to eat our chickens lol so I told her we would trade our chickens for someone else's and then we would not eat our own lol. I actually really like the coop I built just wish it was bigger lol. I put a space heater in the coop this morning but think I am going to get the oil space heater from my dad to use. I like your set up are you outside of the city limits?

By the way my kids are not real big egg eaters and my youngest is extremely picky and won't eat eggs at all, I have to be really careful eating them I have a very sensitive stomach and have issues with eating eggs. But Its ok we still use them in ingredients and have a waiting list for the eggs.

wow my husband eats like 4 to 6 a day. and I don't care for them but will eat them. son would eat a doz if I let him and daughter likes the whites only. lol We actually live on Greenview Ave. North Side of Auburn behind the Greater New Hope Baptist Church. lol We are almost a block in the county. All the house on Auburn are City but we are barely in the county. If you look at the yard in that pic and see the small spot that looks barren. that is were their first yard was. only about the size of a dog run. lol Yeah be careful with the space heater. that can burn the place down. I like what You told the kids about the chickens. lol mine are teens and it won't matter with son at least. Daughter not attached to them at all. They follow me all around and sit on my lap when they can. They are so friendly it is pathetic. when the one went over to my neighbors they didn't have to chase it. it ran up to them sat on their feet. lol I guess it took them a few weeks to train their dog not to attack them. As for my dog I don't know if he would eat it or just play with it. He has killed a couple possum before. He didn't even put a mark on the one he get a hold of. nothing but slobbers. Warning tho. We have a family of Red Tailed Hawks around here. There area is pretty large. We have coyote in the area too. I like the ladder set up you have in your coop. I think I'm going to see if I can find an old one to put in there. they right now roost on the laying bins. We have not finished their set up yet.

Yeah its crazy that my youngest won't eat them he loved them when he was younger. Our dog actually killed our chickens but we bought the collar punished him twice for even looking at them to long and now he avoids them lol. I couldn't believe how perfect the ladders worked out for a roost for them. Only thing I didn't use from the fort was the stairs and the plastic slide I will figure out a use for both I am sure lol. Our neighbor saw a chicken hawk sitting on the fence watching our chickens but then it flew away and as of yet we have not had any problems with them. I know it is just a matter of time though so we only let them out to free range when we are home and usually in the yard with the dog to guard them (our old lab who is not a chicken killer lol.) the space heater I am using now has an automatic shut off so hopefully that reduces the fire risk.
