Hey everyone, I am new to the chicken world and I'm interested in starting a flock of free-range egg layers.

I have prior experience with parrots so I am not completely new to the bird world, although I realize they are quite different.

I have never used a forum-type page before so I hope this posts correctly, and please be patient with me :)

Hello Kate, welcome to BYC. I see Ken gave you some great links already. Don't worry about the people here in this forum as we are all friendly and have learned patience to with raising chickens. So sit down grab a cup of coffee and find something on here you are interested in learning about and start reading. You will find that time passes really fast. Enjoy and again welcome.

I kept parrots as well for 20+ years before I gathered my first flock of poultry. And while parrots are different to keep, many aspects of birds in general are the same. So I think you will have an easier start with chickens. :)

Ken left you with some great links to follow, should you still have questions, feel free to ask around.
