Hi, I’m a noob

1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Got my first chickens from tractor supply in April this year.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
29 chickens, 1 duck, 1 turkey

(3) What breeds do you have?
Rhode Island reds, leg horns, australorps, polish, isa, whyndotts and an odd couple of Heinz 57

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love watching them interact with us and each other. Funny little creatures, especially when they run around.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I’ve just relocated to the USA from the UK so I’ve been busy with our first house. Play an online game.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Not working yet but this year as I now have my green card I will find a job. I’d love to homestead but we are spending a lot on the house and on chickens! Have a rescue cat called humperdoo. He’s an indoor cat but he’s great friends with the chicks and chickens when they live in the garage.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Found the site when I was looking for more info on how to be a good chicken owner.

Welcome to BackYardChickens! So glad to have you here in our wonderful community of friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people!

We had two of each but a raccoon took them. We had to take the duck out from the chickens because the turkey kept trying to mount it. I’ve got him in a pen with one other chicken who had a cold but is now on the mend. The turkey just runs around with the chickens all day and was great at Protecting the hens from an aggressive rooster. The rooster got so bad that we had to sort him out’ on Xmas day when the neighbour called police because he’d got out again and might have gone for their grandkids. Tbh he’d been a problem for a while despite all attempts to make him friendly. We’ve all had to take a stick with us when feeding/collecting eggs or just walking around the garden. He’d drawn blood a few times and was getting very aggressive when chasing the hens. I thought the rest of our flock were all girls but seems like three of the Rhode Island reds are boys and another (not sure of his breed). They all let us stroke them still right now so I’ll hang on to them all for now.
Unsure whether we should get another duck because this one is now 6 months and not sure if it would get on with a duckling. But I also read that they don’t like being alone. Also not sure if I should get the turkey a friend. He’s 8 months. All suggestions welcomed.
Hopefully some of the duck and turkey owners will pop in and give you some advice. I would think the duck might feel lonely without someone to hang out with. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Wishing you all good luck :fl and success with whatever you try!!!
