Hi I’m CC and I’m here for duck advice!

Do you know what kind of a predator? Don't forget that they can be struck from above too. I learned that the hardest of way. We've got a 4' fence all around the run with netting above.
For our pen we built it in the corner of an open part of our barn on 2 pallets. We put a sheet of plywood over them then hardware cloth all around every nook and cranny that anything could get into. All the digging in the world wouldn't get them into either of my pens. Don't forget about a net over the top! I made the mistake of thinking that they were too big for a hawk to carry off but didn't think about them killing them and eating right in the run which is what happened to my Daisy. I know exactly how you felt picking up your baby and having her die in your arms. I walked around the yard in a stupor crying holding Daisy until we buried her. It's a horrible thing when we lose a pet that we're so attached to.

Thank you for the advice. I’m so sorry that happened to your sweet Daisy! I really never knew how much these little animals would mean to me and my family. They are just so precious and silly. I’ll make sure the roof the cage came with is secure enough!

Welcome! I am here for ducks and can't wait to see you around! For a new friend(which she needs) I would look on Craigs list to see if there are any...there usually are, but make sure it is a female.

Hey! Thank you! Question: I know ducks cannot be alone long term. Absolutely not. I’m wondering though if you think she would be ok for a little bit. We spend a lot of time with her and she plays with the dog (which is not the same I know) but I’d like to get her ducklings when it warms up a bit. We raised her as a pet so she knows us well and interacts with us a lot. People in my area who have ducks for sale haven’t raised them in a pet like manner. Obviously if I think she gets depressed I would take my chances with getting a duck that might not like us. I’ve been watching her eating and mannerisms. It’s only been a few days. She’s def wanting more interaction and snuggles from us which we are giving her. Just wondering if that’s too long. If I could find ducklings now I would get them today but they wouldn’t even be able to be with her in the cold. Thoughts?

We originally had a pair of ducks and lost one of our girls leaving the other all alone. Ordered ducklings the next day, never thought I would be so sad ordering baby ducks :( We spent a lot more time with her each day and gave her a mirror to keep her company when we weren't around. She would talk to the mirror and lay down next to it to sleep...super cute and super sad all at the same time.
We also started putting her in the garage to sleep at night...before bed we would let her swim in the bathtub and play her youtube videos of other ducks making happy duck sounds. Yes, I know it's crazy :) But she really enjoyed it and talked back to the other ducks on our phone.
Those little babies couldnt grow fast enough but we were finally able to get everyone together, one big happy flock now.
