Hi...I’m completely new here and full of questions.

Yes, please do not feed your chicks scratch (cracked corn and grains). Only specially formulated chick starter is water soluble and can be easily digested by chicks. Feeding scratch without grit available can cause impacted crop and they could die, plus it does not have nearly enough protein for them to grow properly.

It looks like you're aware that putting rocks in the water can prevent drowning... you might also try elevating the food and water up on bricks to help keep it cleaner. Here's a great article that may offer some other helpful information:
Brooding Chicks: The First 6 Weeks

Enjoy the new chickens and the adventure of them. Others have hit the proper diet that you need to take, but also figure out where they will live in the short term. They grow fast and outgrow plastic bins and such quickly. In a few weeks they will be able to fly out of anything that isn't a few feet tall or covered. I would get them out of the house as quickly as possible (not sure where you are located), but I start my chicks in the garage for the first few weeks and then transition them outside as quickly as possible (temperature permitting). You don't want to spread chicken diseases in your house.

Overall though, they are pretty simple little creatures. I have read a lot of threads, and I think some people way over think it. Just keep it simple. Give them water, food and heat when they are babies. Stick to the timelines on the back of the feed of when to switch from chick feed to grower feed, and when they feather out they don't need heat anymore..and get em outside! Careful what you keep around them, as they will eat almost anything and they will also dig like crazy to get at things. Enjoy the journey!
