Very excited to join this site.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes. Just a few months ago after hounding my husband for the last 4 years.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
10
(3) What breeds do you have?
6 RIRs, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 1 Speckled Sussex and 1 Black Australorp. Chicken math is for real...I’ve got more chicks coming in July. 3 Americaunas, 2 Cuckoo Marans and 2 Cream Legbars.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Getting to know each of their personalities. I never thought I’d have attachments or even love for a bird
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Skiing, reading, hiking/backpacking, laying out in the sun
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I are both nurses. We have a 4.5 y/o daughter and a daughter that will be 2 y/o in a few days. We have 2 cats and a 1 y/o border collie/husky. Life is busy, chaotic and with COVID as a nurse, these chicks have been my sanctuary. My calm.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I joined today because I am skeptical of one of my RIRs being an actual RIR. I’ve known about BYC for the last few years when I’ve done internet searches on chicken topics
I’m glad to join and look forward to learning from you all!
