Very excited to join this site.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes. Just a few months ago after hounding my husband for the last 4 years.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
10

(3) What breeds do you have?
6 RIRs, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 1 Speckled Sussex and 1 Black Australorp. Chicken math is for real...I’ve got more chicks coming in July. 3 Americaunas, 2 Cuckoo Marans and 2 Cream Legbars.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Getting to know each of their personalities. I never thought I’d have attachments or even love for a bird 😂

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Skiing, reading, hiking/backpacking, laying out in the sun

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I are both nurses. We have a 4.5 y/o daughter and a daughter that will be 2 y/o in a few days. We have 2 cats and a 1 y/o border collie/husky. Life is busy, chaotic and with COVID as a nurse, these chicks have been my sanctuary. My calm.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I joined today because I am skeptical of one of my RIRs being an actual RIR. I’ve known about BYC for the last few years when I’ve done internet searches on chicken topics 😜

I’m glad to join and look forward to learning from you all!

Hi, I’m new here too! I have two littles the same ages, a dog, a cat, and a crazy hectic life too! Glad to know I’m not the only one who broke their husband down for chicks after 4 years! :lau

They certainly do make you slow down and forget a lot of the world around you. Which I LOVE about them.

Also, on a more serious note, thank you for you & your husband’s hard work and dedication during this pandemic.
Best of luck to you and yours!! :hugs
