I’m new to having ducks. Female in my 30s. I sadly don’t have chickens at the moment but maybe some day. It’s so wet in my backyard, total swamp in the Pacific Northwest sort of vibe!

I have six baby ducklings a couple of days old. I researched pretty well ahead of time, but goodness there is so much you just learn on the fly it seems!

1 white layer named Duck
1 buff named Ducky,
1 silver appleyard Duck-Duck
1 golden 300 hybrid Dukita
1 rouen Duckily
1 khaki campell Dukko

All female from Metzer farms
Does anyone notice the khaki campbells are very small compared to the rest of these?
Or is mine just a runt!
I kind of suspect they run small though because I’m pretty sure my hybrid had khaki in her so maybe just a little small?

I’m super into regenerative agriculture. From growing fruit veggies and flowers to grassfed organic rotationally grazed cattle, bees, etc.

This is my first real livestock adventure on my small property with my little cottage on it. Plenty of room for the ducks though.

Maybe one day I will have my own farm and have chickens and others too!

Hobbies are vast and varied but I get pretty deep into all of them and stick to them. I like playing video games, hiking, studying biology, weird art stuff, sewing, design… studying the endocrine system, people, and honestly so much more. I like to rotate my non-seasonal hobbies seasonally with my seasonal hobbies. Right now garden is wrapping up so I have ducks inside as they are an early autumn batch (so far wouldn’t recommend and would say do spring. Please do spring for the love of—) so now I can do ducklings as my homesteading project this year while I also do other weird art and internet stuff. This past summer I did AI. That stuff is moving way too fast. My big one right now is nutrition science for humans (again) and carnivore diet.

My family and friends circumstances are weird, I don’t really fit in but most are supportive and somewhat put together or reliable in at least a few ways. I dunno how much I wanna share. But I have a really lovely retired service dog golden retriever. Super sweet. About 10 years old but moves like a puppy. Super sensitive stomach. Insane allergies can only eat boiled beef but now his arthritis isn’t bothering him so that’s good!

I’ve honestly been around here and there looking at threads for at least a year but what really pushed me to join was a birdy health issue. Reddit is just too much and weirdly spiteful but not straightforward enough and annoying vibes for me. And I like reading the Permies forums too because I got into scything for a while. I like how bird focused this one is, seems very helpful and I like the vibes

I hope to share and learn much together with everyone!

Hello, and welcome to BYC! Nice to meet you. :frow :welcome

I got my 7 ducks from Metzers, I have 3 Welsh Harlequins and one of them is quite a bit smaller than the other two, so size may just vary.
I have 2 Buffs as well, and they are they funniest! You'll love yours I'm sure.

:frow hi and welcome! I'm chickens, not ducks although I think they're awfully cute. We're glad you joined. Resistance is futile!*

*Star Trek reference.
