Omg 300 eggs/ year! thats awesome!!! yes, i tried to pick friendly birds. The RIR red that I currently have seems a bit feisty. On the first day she pecked my poor daughter! lol.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. Chicks don't usually peck to harm you, they don't have hands so they test everything by pecking. If you put "wing clipping" in the search box, information will pop up. Good luck with your flock.

I give my chicks organic scratch and mealy worms for a treat. ONLY a little bit now and then. Too many treats are bad for them. Also you want them to eat their feed so they are getting a balanced diet.
If you live close to a bookstore you may want to glance at a copy of Backyard Chickens for Dummies. It is a great book that covers lots of things you will come across. Example: it shows a sketch about wing clipping. Between the book and this wonderful site usually everything I have questions on are answered.

Ok. I live in miami, florida and was reading about deep litter method. Should I do this? I know it generates a lot of heat?
The floor in my coop is completely closed. At first I wanted to do the hardware cloth to have a good ventilation but read that this actually hurts the chickens' feet and creates blisters.
Should I leave my current floor or change it?

I dont recommend deep litter in the south, ventilation is imperative keeping mold and fungus at bay. Deep litter is a hot bed for capillary worms. If you have wooden floor, use pine shavings. You can use it for nests. Ensure there's proper ventilation (vents) on all 4 walls. I use pliable screen and hardware cloth on all vents. The screen will prevent mosquitos biting your birds. I also use screen at the entrance to their house to deter mosquitos. Simply cut a piece of screen to cover the entrance and slice it vertically so that birds can enter/exit freely. Use a strip of wood to secure it in place with several wood screws.
I forgot to add that I have a fan rigged up at a vent inside my two separate houses. I put them on low speed 24/7 during our hot summer months. They blow the air out the vent, fresh air is sucked in, indirectly through the other vents. That way there isnt any direct airflow on the birds at night when they are sleeping on their roosts.
