First of all I adopted 2 little Rowen ducklings this spring, and were told they were both hens (females). Well one has a white ring around the neck and still doesn't quack, it sort of peeps. The other one quacks and has for some time now, and I think they are around the same age, but I noticed no curled up tail feathers. The one with the ring around it's neck is starting to lose some feathers if that means anything. THere are some pictures on my blog, if you scroll down towards the bottom of the first page. Just wondering if Daisy and Darla will be a Duke and Darla instead.

There are also some duck baby pictures on other pages! http://psychoflowers.blogspot.com/

I
am also finding out they they love to eat everything in my pond. Somehow I need to provide some shade on the water for my Koi and water quality. So far they had a huge feast of water hyacinths. I am wondering if they will eat lilly pads?

I just love my ducks, they are so much fun to watch especially when we let them out of their pen in the morning! We were hoping to have a couple duck eggs every day, but when does that happen? We might have to fight over the one egg a day if Daisy is really a Duke!

Hmm...it's hard for me to tell if they are male or female, they don't look like they are fully feathered yet. Wait a while and see if one gets the curly tail feathers. Listen for the quacks, if one is quacking then you definitely have a female. Males always sound hoarse and whispery.

They start laying eggs around 20 weeks old.

I stink at sexing them this young thou my guess is one of each.
And I would say plant a tree by your pond. In my yard I have this tiny pond that a pair of mallards has decided to make their day time hang out they have eaten all my plants and did in all my big 6" plus goldfish so now they have the pond all to themselves! Brats
