Hi my name is Pam. I lived in Baltimore City MD until last year when I retired and moved to the country in NC. I got my very first chickens a couple months ago. I went with poulets I felt they would be easier then chicks for my fist time. I let them free range during the day and coop them at night.
I got my first egg yesterday woohoo.
Thank you for this great forum I've learned so much just by coming here to read the questions and answers.

Hi Pam and welcome to BYC and congrats of your first egg :celebrate

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

Hey there Pam, Welcome to BYC. I also grow up here in Baltimore Maryland. My husband was from Hamilton area. It seems like everyone comes to either NC or Florida after they retire. My sister also lives in NC by Collettville. I used to live in Burgaw NC then moved back to Md myself. I missed my kids and they all lived here in Md with my grandkids. I love it in NC its so peaceful there and so much slower then Maryland is. People seem friendlier also to me.
So what kind of chickens did you get ? Congratulations on your first egg also. Keep eye around your yard because you may find some in there as well as nesting boxes to for a while. Good Luck and hope to chat with you again soon.

Hi, I lived in the Roland Park area and loved to go to the ball games. I miss the Oriole's
I moved here because I have family here and was tired of all the crime of the city. I have a cousin with a empty farmhouse on a large tobacco farm that I moved into. The town is so small there is only a Dollar General store. I'm 30 mins to the nearest grocery store. Life is so layed back it's taken some getting use to but I'm enjoying it.

YUP Pam, layed back is the word to use from here to there for sure. The crime is only getting worse its a shame we have to lock doors up and be scared to go out after dark here. There it is so much different, every one says hello and are friendly. They ask if you like it or need anything or help. Here it to see what you got and they can get or steal from you later. Its a shame for sure. My little town down there was like Mayberry from Andy Griffin show. LOL Small town square a few shops 1 grocery store we could go to a gas station or 2 but there was no real places to shop at in our area. YOU had to go to Wilmington 40 mins away to get anything you needed. Our grocery store was like a store at a campground. It had a few things in it but that was it. Oh we also had a hospital there and a prison that kept people working because jobs were hard to find. I loved the place down there.

Man I get that. The biggest town from here is Burlington also 40 minutes from here. I'm also 40 minutes from Danville VA.
My only problem here is it's hard to meet people and make friends because I'm not working and homes here are not close together. But I still love it

Hi and welcome to BYC Pam :frow I was not far from you in Springfield VA and I went to middle TN. Welcome aboard...
